Ylang Ylang Essential Oil Benefits
I’m starting to read more and more about Ylang Ylang oil and Ylang Ylang Flowers for anxiety and depression. It’s a tropical tree widely distributed in Southwest Asia, the Phillipines and the Polynesian Islands. It’s also known as the perfume tree. The flowers of the tree are used in producing essential oils for perfumes and aromatherapy. Similar to the scent of Jasmine, it has long been considered an aphrodisiac, which is why you may see Ylang Ylang contained in many different perfume blends. Chanel no 5 for example contains the oil of the Ylang Ylang flowers.
Besides the pleasant aroma of the Ylang Ylang flower it has other health benefits as well. It has a calming affect that is used to help in treating tension, anxiety, and frigidity. It is also used in treating insomnia, depression, high blood pressure, palpitations and PMS. Here are some different methods for using the Ylang Ylang oil.
Vaporization- Add a few drops of the oil to a nebulizer which will spread the smell around the environment.
Inhalation- Add a few drops to steaming hot water and breath in Bathing- Add a few drops to a hot bath adding a dispersant such as milk to break up the oil droplets.
Massage- Adding 15-20 drops to 1oz of carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil or apricot kernel oil) and massage over the body.
Spray- Add 1 tsp of oils to 7ounces of distilled water and 1ounce of alcohol.
Along with benefits there are some precautions you must keep in mind before using the oil. It is recommended to test the oil on a small part of the body, letting sit for some time. If irritation develops in the spot that it was used in then it is not suitable for your skin. It has been noted that excessive use of Ylang Ylang oil will lead to headaches nausea and vomiting, so don’t overuse it. It can also cause sensitivity to people with sensitive skin or dermatitis. Woman who are pregnant should avoid using as well.
