Types Of Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety can be a very scary and confusing thing for many people who first experience it. You can suddenly feel nervous, get sweaty palms and/or start shaking. It could effect you when you are in front of a crowd or even just a group a friends. Or maybe you are facing a problem at work or the fear losing your job and not having enough money. The fact is anyone can experience these feelings at one point or another. But if it happens regularly you most likely have an anxiety disorder and it can really interfere with a person’s life. You really change the way you live because you are afraid to end up in that overwhelming situation again. There are different types of anxiety disorders and all are considered a serious mental illness. People constantly worry and have overwhelming fears that can be very damaging.
Types Of Anxiety Disorders:
- Panic Disorder: This is a common disorder that makes people feel scared suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. Symptoms include sweating, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, and feeling of choking which has been described by some people that they feel like they are having a heart attack or going crazy.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): With this disorder, people to have constant thoughts or fears (obsessions) that cause them to performs certain rituals (compulsions) or routines. A popular example is someone with a fear of germs that is constantly washing their hands.
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: This develops after someone is involved in a traumatic life changing event. These people tend to have frightening memories of the event that keep happening and make them emotionally numb. This could happen to someone that has lost a loved one, was sexually or physically abused, or involved in a natural disaster, just to name a few.
- Social Anxiety Disorder: One that I can relate to directly. This disorder causes people to have overwhelming worry about everyday interactions with people. There is a big fear that the person will be judged or embarrassed in front of others and for reasons that shouldn’t be a big deal.
- Specific Phobias: This disorder causes people to have an intense, overwhelming fear of a specific thing or situation. Usually it’s a level of fear that is not appropriate for the public which can cause someone to stay way from common, everyday situations. Examples include fear of flying, or fear of certain creatures like snakes and spiders.

Causes Of Anxiety Disorders
Although the exact cause of anxiety disorders is not known, the disorders are mainly caused by chemical imbalances in the body. Some people may think it’s due to personal weaknesses, a character flaw or poor upbringing but today it is clear that these anxiety disorders are caused by a combination of factors. Stress that lasts a long time or is severe can change the brain chemicals known to control mood. Some studies have been know to show changes in brain structures that control memory or mood. Others have shown that anxiety disorders can be inherited from parents and run in the family. Even certain trauma’s and big events could trigger anxiety disorder in people who may have inherited it.
Ways To Help Anxiety Disorders
There really isn’t a specific way to prevent yourself from getting an anxiety disorder, however, once you have know you have one there are many things you can do to control or reduce your symptoms. To start, you should stop or greatly reduce drinking caffeine products like coffee, tea, soda, etc… If you have gone through a traumatic experience get support and talk to a counselor. Next, and I find this very useful, you can consume things like natural anxiety herbs to help keep your mind and body calm regularly. There are many benefits to taking alternative herbs to cure things like anxiety and depression. Do your research and/or consult a doctor before you try any herbal remedies. Lastly, you could also consult a doctor about getting on prescribed medication. I personally would stay away from those types of medications. They can have lots of side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
The last thing is, don’t be scared or think that you are weird or different because you have one of these types of anxiety disorders. They affect about 19 million adult Americans so you are not alone and there is lots of help any way you look at it.
