Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola Rosea is known as golden root, rose root, or artic root and is a medicinal plant indigenous to Siberia that thrives in dry and cold arctic climates. It has been used to relieve occasional stress, anxiety, mental and physical fatigue and a depressed mood. The root of the plant contains the medicinal compounds. Rhodiola Rosea is also known as an adaptogen, which increases resistance to physical and emotional stress. This natural herb is believed to help with a healthy emotional and neurological function by stimulating serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine activity.

Rhodiola Rosea is normally taken in capsule form, but it is also available in extract and tea form. Follow the labels instructions for recommended dosage and always consult a health professional if you have any doubts or questions. Dosing instructions for using the capsule form is usually 100 to 300mg daily for adults and there is not enough scientific evidence to suggest using this on children. Anyone who is pregnant, nursing, or taking other prescription medication with MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) should not take this herb.

Side effects are rare from taking Rhodiola Rosea. If any, they are mild to moderate and can include headache, stomach upset, drowsiness, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping. If combined with benzodiazepines, SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), or SNRIs (serotonin norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitors) you may experience drowsiness.

No found risks have been associated with Rhodiola Rosea, however, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate the production of herbs and supplements. Most herbs and supplements are not thoroughly tested, and there is no guarantee regarding the ingredients or safety of the products.

Where To Get Rhodiola Rosea

I found a pretty good selection at Planetary Formulas online. Mainly they have capsules and oil extracts. This herb seems a little harder to find then most. If interested, click here to go straight to the Rhodiola products page. Also, check out my Amazon picks on the bottom left…
