Benefits Of Green Tea
Green tea is probably the most popular, widely known tea and the health benefits of Green tea are amazing. It’s originally from China and now is made all over the world. It is made from a tea plant called Camellia sinensis. When growing this a special technique is used to keep the oxidation levels of the leaves to a minimum. This is where Green tea is different then other teas and gives your body numerous benefits.
How Green Tea Works
The health benefits of Green tea have been researched for more then a decade. It contains powerful antioxidants called catechins. These search for free radicals that can damage DNA and contribute to cancer, blood clots, and atherosclerosis. Unlike black and oolong teas, these leaves are withered and steamed which make it a light process which keeps the antioxidants intact. This protects your bodies cells and gets rid of harmful ones without causing side effects.
The Health Benefits Of Green Tea
Weight Loss
One of the most popular benefits of Green tea is weight loss. It helps burn fat from the body by improving the metabolic rate. 70 calories can be burned in a day just by drinking four to five glasses. The presence of caffeine and catechin polyphenols in Green tea allow it to burn fat at a high rate. Along with fighting obesity, some studies have shown this tea to lower “bad” cholesterol. Which therefore helps fight heart disease and diabetes.
Skin Problems
Green tea also acts as a natural remedy for skin related problems such as acne, wrinkles, warts, and psoriasis. It is effective in destroying bacteria called ‘Staphylococcus Aureus’, which is a main factor in the cause of skin inflammation. The antioxidants it contains is a great property to fight free radicals.
Arthritis
Green tea can keep arthritis calm by stifling enzymes in your body that cause damage to bone cartilage.
Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
Green tea has the ability to slow down the reduction of the chemical acetylcholine. When this is reduced in the brain it causes Alzheimer’s disease. The tea can protect brain cells from being destroyed which then reduces the chanced of Parkinson’s disease.
HIV
Green tea even has the ability to keep HIV away. It has antibacterial properties that can fight off viruses that try to attached to the healthy cells of the body.
Cancer
Yes even Cancer! Researchers have discovered that Green tea’s EGCG regulates and inhibits cancer growth and kills cells that are growing inappropriately. Not too many studies have been done but enough to be intrigued. It is said that drinking two cups of Green tea daily inhibits cancer growth. One study was done in Japan with women that had type I and II breast cancer. From this they found that increasing Green tea consumption before and after surgery lowered the chance of the cancer coming back. Other studies in China have shown that the more of this tea you drink the less risk for stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal cancer.
Lastly, a recent study showed that consuming high amounts of Green tea can reduce risk of lung cancer by 18%! Green tea has even been shown to be an adjunct therapy for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Studies have shown chemotherapy to be more effective when patients consumed a green tea regimen along with their chemotherapy compared to patients who did not consume green tea.
Heart Disease
There are some conflicting results when doing research to see if Green tea can be beneficial to the heart. A study in Japan shows that drinking at least four cups every day can reduce the severity of coronary heart disease among males. A Dutch study shows that the more tea they consume the less severe clogging of the heart’s blood vessels, especially in women.
Green tea is not regularly prescribed to people with heart problems because there haven’t been too many studies to prove that 100%.
