Anxiety Herbs

Written by admin on Mar 16th, 2010 | Filed under: Herbs For Anxiety

Herbs For AnxietyWe all have some type of stress in our lives that is causing us to worry and get anxious. Anxiety herbs are an all around great natural remedy for your stressful, fast paced, day to day life. From worrying about our children to deadlines at work, or finding work and of course money. Money is a big cause of our stress, especially in these times. All this stress and worrying in our lives can eventually lead to anxiety.

Those of us who have experienced any kind of anxiety, like myself, know that it is no walk in the park. I was diagnosed with social anxiety. (click here to read more about the types anxiety disorders) At some points you don’t want to even leave the house. It is just too nerve racking to be around people or do your job because you might have another ‘attack’ in front of somebody. I might feel embarrassed for no reason at all really. Which then would make me not want to talk in front of anyone. I was so scared at one point and wanted to do anything to just make it stop.

Unfortunately, I turned to a few different prescription medications at first, as most people would because it’s what the doctor tells you to do. After trying a few and actually being on one type for 5+ years (Effexor) and wasting lots of money, I decided to try something else because nothing was working one hundred percent. You really get addicted to these things and if I forgot to take a pill for one day, that next day would be horrible because of the kind of ‘brain shocks’ you get. It would really ruin a whole day for me. So you can only imagine what coming off of this horrible drug would feel like. Not fun. Not fun at all.

So before you go and spend money on the many types of anxiety medications that claim to relieve your anxiety, why not try to cure it naturally with anxiety herbs. Natural ingredients in anything is much better for us then some kind of medication made drug that can have a list of side effects and are mixed with all types of dependencies for the medication. Not only that, many of us don’t even have insurance to help us cover the costs of the very expensive prescription. So it is definitely worth to try an alternative method first.

Anxiety herbs give you great relaxation for your mind and body. They will help you cope with the stress and anxiety that our everyday lives bring on by strengthening the body systems. However, there are many different types of herbs for anxiety to choose from. You may want to consult a health professional to find the right anxiety herb for you.

  • Oats (Avena sativa) – If you are really anxious, oats is very beneficial for your nervous system. It is recommend to use 1-2 teaspoons of this herb in tea.
  • Motherwort (Leonurus Cardiaca) – This is commonly used for people who feel anxiety and have a rapidly beating heart. It directly impacts the cardiovascular system.  Specifically, it is for people with anxiety that results from miter valve relapse.
  • Rooibos – Popular in South Africa for many generations and now the use has spread to many countries. It is used in herbal tea to relieve nervous tension, allergies and digestive problems
  • Lavender & Lemon Balm – A couple more common anxiety herbs used to promote calm, ease stress and feelings of agitation and irritation.
  • Gaba, 5HTPThese herbs can be combined. Both contain naturally occuring amino acids which are very well known for their calming effects. Gaba works like a natural valium with no side effects and 5HTP reduces anxiety and is also great for depression.

All these anxiety herbs have a long record of success when used as a natural medicine. They have been proven effective in many clinical research studies. Along with taking any of these anxiety herbs, you still may want to do some simple activities around the house that could also help reduce your stress. Like going for a walk, reading a book, or some type of meditation to relax your mind.  Of course, you have to find time in your busy day to do these methods. Which is why things like anxiety herbs are becoming a more and more common way to relieve your stress and anxiety.

So if you are feeling anxious, stressed, or have a worrying mind, there is no need to resort to powerful over-the-counter drugs or prescription medication. Start with some calming natural remedies like the anxiety herbs and you could start feeling calm and relaxed fast without any kind of side effects.

Natural Herbs To Help Quit Smoking

Written by admin on Sep 1st, 2010 | Filed under: Herbal Remedies

There are many stop-smoking remedies out there to help you fight nicotine withdrawal. But most of them contain nicotine helping you to wean yourself off of nicotine. You gradually decrease the amount until you no longer crave the nicotine anymore.  There are better solutions out there. 100 percent natural herbs to help quit smoking can help with your cravings for a nicotine fix.

Lobelia (lobelia inflata)

Lobelia HerbThe herb Lobelia has been used to help people with the effects of nicotine withdrawal and can be found in many over the counter anti-smoking products. The active ingredient Lobeline is thought to have the same actions on the body as nicotine does.  In 1993 the FDA temporarily prohibited the sale because they claim there was no evidence that it was effective.

More research has been conducted showing that lobeline
increases levels of dopamine similar to cigarettes. Both providing a feeling of pleasure and increased mood. Today there still is no evidence that proves that it helps people to quit smoking.  All though many have
used it and swear by its results.

So how does Lobelia help in quitting smoking? There are two main reasons, Lobeline is an alkaloid. It helps clear and open up the passages of the lungs. When the lungs are clean the taste and odor of cigarettes become unpleasant. Which results in no cravings for the nicotine.

Another reason is that it also contains a relaxant. This helps to loosen and ease the tension of the nervous system. Also helps in calming the nerves from withdrawal symptoms.  These two alkaloids together help in
stopping the nicotine addiction.

Lobelia itself is not addictive or habit forming. After you have kicked the habit you can discontinue using it. When quitting smoking make sure to drink lots of water and abide by the recommended dosage of lobelia.  High dosages of this herb can be toxic.  Before using this you should consult with your doctor first. People with
heart disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, tobacco sensitivity, paralysis, seizure disorder or shortness of breath, pregnant and nursing woman and children should not take this herb.

Where To Get Lobelia

One of my favorite places online has some Lobelia tinctures and Capsules. Follow this link to check out their page

Also, HerbsMD.com has some tincures, extracts and capsules also. If interested, click here to check out their Lobelia products.

Ylang Ylang Oil For Anxiety and Depression

Written by admin on Aug 30th, 2010 | Filed under: Herbal Remedies

Ylang Ylang TreeI’m starting to read more and more about Ylang Ylang oil for anxiety and depression. It’s a tropical tree widely distributed in Southwest Asia, the Phillipines and the Polynesian Islands. It’s also known as the perfume tree. The flowers of the tree are used in producing essential oils for perfumes and aromatherapy. Similar to the scent of Jasmine, it has long been considered an aphrodisiac, which is why you may see Ylang Ylang contained in many different perfume blends. Chanel no 5 for example contains the oil of the Ylang Ylang flowers.

Besides the pleasant aroma of the Ylang Ylang flower it has other health benefits as well. It has a calming affect that is used to help in treating tension, anxiety, and frigidity. It is also used in treating insomnia, depression, high blood pressure, palpitations and PMS.  Here are some different methods for using the Ylang Ylang oil.

Vaporization- Add a few drops of the oil to a nebulizer which will spread the smell around the environment.

Inhalation- Add a few drops to steaming hot water and breath in Bathing- Add a few drops to a hot bath adding a dispersant such as milk to break up the oil droplets.

Massage- Adding 15-20 drops to 1oz of carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil or apricot kernel oil) and massage over the body.

Spray- Add 1 tsp of oils to 7ounces of distilled water and 1ounce of alcohol.

Along with benefits there are some precautions you must keep in mind before using the oil. It is recommended to test the oil on a small part of the body, letting sit for some time.  If irritation develops in the spot that it was used in then it is not suitable for your skin.  It has been noted that excessive use of Ylang Ylang oil will lead to headaches nausea and vomiting, so don’t overuse it. It can also cause sensitivity to people with sensitive skin or dermatitis. Woman who are pregnant should avoid using as well.

Where To Get Ylang Ylang Oil

If you’re interested in Ylang Ylang oil or other products made from Ylang Ylang, I found some at a couple places online. Herbal remedies has oil, hair products, bath products and creams. Follow this link to go straight to their Ylang Ylang page.

Donate To Charity By Browsing The Web

Written by admin on Aug 12th, 2010 | Filed under: charity donations

Off the subject of herbs, but I found a really cool program where you can donate to charity by browsing the web. It’s totally FREE and it’s called Global Mojo. They are trying to change the way people are browsing the web. Letting people do it for a good cause. Basically while you browse the web or shop online you will be raising money for your favorite charity. There are all kinds of charities you can pick from. You can pick up to 4 at a time to donate to. For example, I just started this myself and I’ve already started donating to the Humane Society charity to help abused animals, a nature conservancy and a cure for cancer charity. It is very simple to do. You can either download a new Global Mojo browser that is very similar to the Firefox browser. Or if you already use Firefox browser you can simply install an add on to it and you will be ready to go. Once you make an account and download your program just pick the charities you want and start raising money for a great cause. Very cool! If interested, just click here to learn more.

The Benefits Of Kombucha Tea

Written by admin on Jul 12th, 2010 | Filed under: Natural Living

Kombucha TeaUnless you have been hiding under a rock recently you have heard about the Kombucha Tea making headlines all over the world. With all the hype I was very curious to try it and I loved it. Kombucha Tea is highly popular in other countries, and it Is gaining popularity here in the United States. It is a mixture of bacteria and yeast added to sugar and black or green tea (whatever your preference) and allowed to ferment for 8-12 days. It is not just a health tonic, it is a complete therapy.  The earliest records of it were 2000 years ago and it was known as ‘the elixir of long life’. The taste is similar to apple cider or a light wine, depending on the fermentation time and type of tea used. Drinking the tea promotes good health and helps with detoxifying and immune-enhancing qualities.

So are you wondering how Kombucha tea works?  Drinking this tea on a regular basis will help you become more healthy which will in turn help to prevent disease. It does not treat symptoms like some chemical drugs do but rather holistically by strengthening the whole body. This allows the body to function better and to heal itself.

Kombucha Is rich in antioxidants and probiotic acids. Scientific research shows that the high concentration of these live bacteria can provide an energy boost and cleanse the blood of disease causing toxins.

Here are 10 Benefits of Drinking Kombucha Tea Daily

  • It Prevents Acid Reflux
  • Helps With Weight Loss
  • Aids in Digestion
  • Strengthens and restores Hair
  • Gives you more energy
  • Helps With Sleep
  • Relives Constipation
  • Post Work Out Recovery Drink (Cardiovascular and Resistance Training)
  • Reduces Severity of Hangovers
  • Better Skin Complexion, Tighter Skin Tone

Kombucha Tea all though not scientifically proven has helped with chronic conditions from people suffering from long term illnesses such as arthritis, high blood pressure, poor circulation and even cancer.  Most of these findings can be found on numerous web sites that have documented the findings from people who drink the tea to help with their chronic conditions.

A few side effects have been reported at the beginning of drinking the tea. But Its perfectly natural, its your body releasing unwanted toxins from your system. It might help to drink the tea in small amounts, gradually increasing the amount. Eventually for you to benefit from the tea 150ml three times a day is recommended. While doing this make sure to drink lots of water to flush the toxins out of your system.

Maqui Berry Natural Weight Loss Supplement

Written by admin on Jul 7th, 2010 | Filed under: Natural Living

There are many natural weight loss supplements out there. Lately I’ve seen a lot about the Maqui berry. It’s really starting to become a new revolution in superfoods or superberries. Similar to the Acai berry or Goji berries but it is even more potent. It is packed with enormous benefits and is an antioxidant powerhouse. Like many other natural, healthy foods, the U.S. is one of the last countries to accept this. It has been used in Chile to promote and maintain health for centuries. Even Mapuche Indians claimed it had healing powers and made them healthier and stronger. Now in the U.S. the Maqui berry is growing in popularity rapidly and is hard to resist.

Maqui Berry Benefits

Nutritional Benefits

The Maqui berries nutritional benefits are wonderful. They contain very high levels of powerful antioxidants Maqui Berriesincluding anthocyanins and polyphenols. Antioxidants are key in any kind of health/weight loss food because they prevent damage done by free radicals which are capable of producting cancer cells, neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, and heart disease. These antioxidants can even help to slow the aging process. Maqui berries also contain good amounts of Vitamin C, Iron, Calcium, and Potassium.

Health Benefits

There are many health benefits to your body when consuming Maqui berries.
These include:

Taking Maqui Berry

There are a few different ways you can take this wonderful berry. The most common seem to be just eating the plain fruit or drinking the Maqui berry juice. But you can also find many dietary supplements. One I found is called Ultimate Maqui Berry. It is a revolutionary product and many people think it will become bigger then the Acai berry in the next couple of years. Acai berry has detox properties of around 1027 but Maqui berries detox properties are over double at over 2500. Ultimate Maqui Berry is considered more pure then anything on the market because of it’s massive 1800mg of pure maqui berry per serving. They use some kind of new technology that squeezes the pure ingredients into the product that is said to make it far better than drink alternatives. If you want to learn more about Ultimate Maqui Berry you can check it by clicking here… Ultimate Maqui Berry

According to a research published in the Journal of Agricultural & Food Chemistry, Maqui berry scored better for TRAP (Total Radical Trapping Potential) and TAR (Total Antioxidant Reactivity) when compared to red wine, blackberry, strawberry, blueberry, cranberry, and raspberry. Social AnxietyWhen it comes to social anxiety, I know first hand how scary that can be. I was diagnosed with social anxiety and I didn’t want to be around anyone. I was even scared to talk in front of friends and family because I might easily get embarrassed or just feel uncomfortable with people looking at me and having myself be the center of attention. It really helps to learn that you are not alone and there is help out there to relieve yourself of these life changing feelings.

The first thing you need to do is educate yourself on the different options available. Finding what works for you is the first step in getting through your anxiety.

Valerian extract has been shown to relieve anxiety in numerous studies. Taking a dosage of 50-500 mg can help you feel more relaxed and less worried. Usually it only takes about a half hour to kick in. And unlike anti anxiety drugs, valerian is not addictive.

Passionflower is another anxiety herb that has been proven to calm nerves and reduce worrying.  You want to find a medication that contains a few hundred milligrams of the extract. From the research scientists have discovered that Vitexin is a compound found that is responsiable for the relaxing effect of Passionflower.  In other words you want 3-4% extract of Vitexin for it to be most effective.

L-theanine is another herbal remedy for social anxiety that has been proven in scientific research. When taken in doses of 100-300mg It has been reported by many people to work as well as anti anxiety drugs.  Be careful for products that market as L-theanine but contain very little as they are not as effective.  To be sure look for products with SunTheanine, this is a 99% pure form of L-theanine.

To sum it all up, the best social anxiety meds are those that contain proven ingredients, and making sure you take the right dosage to get the most effect from it. Seredyn is an effective herbal remedy for social anxiety that combines these three extracts of Valerian, Passionflower and SunTheanine. Its natural ingredients can help calm your nerves. Chinese Herbs For Anxiety

Written by admin on Jun 28th, 2010 | Filed under: Herbal Remedies

Chinese Herbs For AnxietyMany people experience anxiety as a natural reaction to stress. If you are properly focused anxiety can help you concentrate  intensely and make quick decisions. But, when unfocused and irrational, anxiety becomes a major mental condition that can include general anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorder (click here to read more about anxiety disorders). Chinese medicine is based off the view that anxiety is caused by an imbalance in the chi, or life force. Chinese herbs for anxiety can refocus and balance your chi.

Traditional Chinese medicine views anxiety as a problem in the chest, the seat of emotion. Certain stressful events can cause the chest area to tighten, which then constricts the flow of chit to the chest area and eventually restricts blood flow and chi flow to the liver. This constricting then causes liver stagnation and anxiety disorders.

Ashwagandha Herb

Written by admin on Jun 12th, 2010 | Filed under: Herbs For Anxiety

AshwagandhaLots of research has been done lately on the Ashwagandha (Latin: Withania somniferous) anxiety/depression herb. This is an Indian herb also known as Winter Cherry, Withania, Asgandh, and Indian ginseng.  This small shrub can grow to a height of 2-3 feet and contains clusters of tiny green and yellow flowers and red raisin sized fruits. Considered a member of the pepper family. Ashwagandha grows in the drier parts of Western India, Northern Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Every part of this wonderful plant can be used for medicinal purposes. It is known to strengthen the body and give energy. The berries, leaves, and roots aid in restoring muscles, body tissues and even bone marrow. A very powerful herb that is usually prescribed for someone recovering from an illness or suffering from excessive fatigue.

Ashwagandha is a major herb in many natural herbal healing remedies and has a long list of benefits. (more…)

Natural Treatments For Dog Anxiety

Written by admin on Jun 8th, 2010 | Filed under: Herbs For Dogs

Separation AnxietyIf you love your dogs and pets like they are part of the family then you want them to live the longest, healthiest life. That’s why I try to buy everything natural for them as well. There are lots of unhealthy things out there for dogs in treats and other things they consume. But I am starting to see more and more natural, healthier treats and foods for them. One great thing I came across is a natural treatment for dog anxiety. I was going on a long road trip with two dogs, a Weimaraner and a Shepard mix, that are very active and we were going to be in a SUV for like 13 hours. I found this all natural supplement called Happy Traveler on this online all natural pet supplement site called Pet Herbs Direct. It worked great! I had no problems with either dog. Just let them out when we stopped for gas. And if anyone knows about a Weimaraner they are very hyper dogs. This could even work for when you leave home and your dog has separation anxiety. It contains the anxiety herbs Valerian, German Chamomile and St. John’s Wort so it has an all natural calming effect for your dog.
